Midsummer #4
2013, Acrylic on board, 31x41cm
The fading rays of the sun linger on a forming storm cloud creating an island of glowing red and yellow colour surrounded by cold blues and greys. The cloud suggests a metaphorical tower of some kind, a crystal palace or a tower of Babel perhaps. The red and blue lines that have been allowed to show through can be seen as deconstructive devices that question its veracity. It seems as if a shadow is being cast by the towering cloud on a flat background, instead of a sky, suggesting a staged setup, an illusion.
